At Hotel Gotham Newcastle, we are committed to building a more sustainable future by reducing our environmental impact, supporting our local community, and operating responsibly across all areas of our business. We are dedicated to improving our energy efficiency, minimising waste, and sourcing products thoughtfully and ethically.

In partnership with GoGreen, we actively benchmark our environmental performance and identify opportunities for meaningful, measurable progress. This collaboration allows us to set clear targets, monitor our impact, and continuously refine our approach to sustainability.

We are committed to continual improvement, striving to reduce our carbon footprint and embed sustainable practices throughout the guest experience, from operations behind the scenes to the services we provide every day.

Located in the heart of Newcastle city centre, Hotel Gotham Newcastle occupies a historic former fire station, originally built in 1934. We are proud to preserve and celebrate this heritage building while adapting it for modern, sustainable use, ensuring its legacy continues for generations to come.

Through conscious decision-making and ongoing innovation, we aim to create a luxurious yet responsible experience for our guests, contributing positively to both the environment and the vibrant Newcastle community.

  • Our Lights are reused fire hoses and money spent on these was donated to a local burns victim charity through Elvis & Kresse.
  • We offer our guests the option to re-use rather than replace towels on stayover guests.
  • Marlish canned water is supplied from a local business, along with in room canned cocktails & minibar options
  • All of our brochures and promotional material are available online to save on print and paper.
  • All our guest bedrooms are fitted with LED light bulbs to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Where possible correspondence with colleagues, guests and suppliers is done electronically through Canary.
  • We are working with a local business to ensure all of our used paper is shredded and recycled.
  • Lights in wardrobes/ public areas are go off when no activity is seen in that area.
  • Hot Wax- Eco-friendly wax used for our Gotham Scent, also purchasable from the hotel.
  • Cacao brew – ethically sourced speciality Hotel Gotham Newcastle chocolate.
  • Twice Brewed – They brew using water from their own well and waste water is filtered through their own reed bed filtration. Left over malt from the brewing process goes to feed cattle at the local farm and old hops fertilise the garden.

Business Responsibility Awareness What we’d like to share with you:

Decorative Image Element
  • We encourage our guests to enjoy our city and have bicycles and maps for them to use to explore Newcastle
  • We encourage guests to travel by train by promoting the fact we are located only a 8 minute walk from Newcastle Train Station that connects to all major UK routes including London and Edinburgh.
  • Food Miles is a vital concept in the planning and purchasing of the hotel supplies: we ensure that what we buy comes from local and sustainable sources wherever possible
  • Our restaurants feature seasonal produce which reaches the hotel very fresh, having travelled a short distance
  • Super Juice - We use a method of juicing/mixing water and acids to make our fresh juice last longer and get more from less
  • Waste citrus husks are used to create cordials, rather than buying in and using plastic bottles!
  • B cord brands: House Vodka is Sapling, Everleaf non-alcoholics, Mirabeau, Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, 818, Avellen, Brockmans and Baileys
  • Using waste ingredients as garnish for our drinks
  • We only provide paper straws
  • Our coasters and menu’s are also repurposed fire hoses from Elvis & Kresse
  • We sell alongside William Wood watches, as they are from fire hoses and equipment - as well as donating to charity with every purchase made, these can be seen in our Hotel Reception on display.
