As a hotel we recognise that our business will inevitably have an impact on the environment. We are committed to ensuring that we measure and evaluate our current practices, adopting the most effective policies to minimise our carbon footprint and adhere to sustainable practices wherever possible. We work with
Green Tourism to monitor and make improvements to the sustainability of the hotel. Below you can learn about initiatives adopted by Hotel Gotham Manchester.
Reduction in waste and energy
Our guestrooms, public areas, function rooms and back of the house is outfitted with LED lightbulbs, which utilize up to 80% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent lightbulbs. We are minimizing the purchase of individual packaging products where it is possible without compromising our quality of services or health & safety issues. Each guestroom features full-size, pump-topped toiletries to reduce plastic waste. With the elimination of plastic straws and only utilizing eco-friendly takeaway containers, Hotel Gotham is able to provide biodegradable and eco-friendly options to guests.
Water conservation
Our toilets, faucets, and showerheads are low flow and produce significant water savings compared to traditional fixtures. Hotel Gotham Manchester invites also guests to make green choices daily – by offering guests an option to forego housekeeping services, they can save water and reduce energy consumption.
Recycling programmes
We cooperate with certified companies which collect used cooking oil, paper, cardboard and food.
Other actions
We operate a no smoking policy throughout the hotel. We grow bee-loving plants on bedrooms’ terraces and our public garden. We favour local suppliers, products and services, only going further afield for valid reasons.
Paperless procedures are in place to reduce printing and paper usage.
We pursue opportunities to introduce appropriate ‘green’ technologies that offer benefits to our business and the community within which we operate. We involve and inform our staff, partners, suppliers and customers of our activities to encourage innovation, fresh ideas and share best practice and to ensure that consideration of environmental issues becomes embedded in all activities.
